Museum Executive Director
At the Lynden Heritage Museum, we celebrate and preserve the rich history of our community. We’re seeking a passionate, organized, and community-oriented Executive Director to lead our small non-profit with heart and vision. At the Lynden Heritage Museum, you’ll lead a small but mighty team dedicated to preserving our community’s history. Responsibilities and Duties
Operations & Leadership
• Oversee daily museum operations in alignment with museum policies, ensuring a welcoming and efficient environment.
• Lead and support a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, guiding day-to-day tasks, special projects, and events.
• Coordinate signature museum events, including the Fireworks Booth, Member BBQ, Mystery at the Museum, Antique Tractor Show Booth, and Summer/Winter Open Houses.
• Maintain the museum’s facilities, recommending updates or upgrades to the board to ensure a safe and inviting space.
• Develop and update museum policies to keep operations effective and relevant.
• Create an annual activity calendar for staff and board, providing follow-up summaries to track progress.
• Oversee that museum staff are maintaining their responsibilities and regularly schedule tasks.
• Serve as the museum’s ambassador, representing our mission at community events, public forums, and budgetary meetings with public officials.
Financial Management
• Manage basic bookkeeping tasks, coordinate payroll, and general accounting reconciliation, and collaborate with our accounting firm for annual tax reporting.
• Ensure timely execution of payables, maintaining a consistent payment schedule.
• Prepare and present an annual museum budget to the board, including planned expenses (insurance, utilities, payroll, etc.).
• Deliver monthly financial statements and year-end financial reports, reviewing costs to identify savings or investment opportunities.
Community Engagement & Marketing
• Build strong community connections through personal interactions
• Create and distribute marketing materials, including membership applications, event flyers and email updates.
• Maintain and update the museum website in collaboration with external contractors.
• Develop and deliver engaging presentations about the museum to local groups, updating content annually or as needed.
Collections & Stewardship
• Collaborate with the collections manager to care for and document museum items, ensuring proper handling of donated collections per museum policy.
Board Support
• Compile and distribute monthly board meeting packets, including financials, director’s reports, budget updates, event plans, and strategic planning materials.
• Recommend budget adjustments for annual presentation to the City of Lynden.
Leadership & Community-Building Opportunities

Salary: Starts at $50,000 annually, DOA, minimum 32 hours per week (salaried)
Benefits: 2 weeks paid vacation, comp time accrual with preapproval
